Scuf Gaming 4PS Professional PlayStation 4 Controller Review

Performance

Immediately after taking this controller out of the box, I knew it was something really special. It feels fantastic in your hands, not only because of the extra grip treatment to the exterior, but even the finish of the digital camo paintwork just adds a premium texture to the whole thing. The buttons are perfectly finished and the new sticks immediately felt right under my thumbs. Now let’s not get too carried away, at the end of the day this is still a stock PlayStation 4 controller and all the basics are still here, to any gamer pro or not, this still works, feels and performs everything the regular controller does and that’s obviously a great thing as it means it’s versatile.

When it comes to improved performance, the controller is a lot of fun to play with, but it does take a little getting used to. The sticks are better, they feel smoother, the custom domes provide improved control over the somewhat slippy stock ones and their action is a lot more linear feeling. It does take an hour or so of FPS gaming before you adjust, although your mileage on that may differ, but I’ve found I’m a little more accurate on Battlefield 4, or at least I feel more accurate; either way I like the sticks performance.

The rear paddles are an interesting one, at first, I would forget they are there. You may be able to remap the buttons, but more importantly you have to remap your head and your fingers. It will take some getting used to, but after a couple of days of pulling of lightning fast melee attacks without taking my thumbs off the stick, I may never want to go back to the stock controller again. This does give you a big advantage and it’s easily the biggest selling point of this controller IMO.

We customised a lot more on this controller, but mostly for aesthetic purposes than performance. It looks cool, but features such as blacked out buttons aren’t going to make me better at Call of Duty.
