Scythe Mugen 5 TUF Gaming Alliance Cooler Review

Installation

The Scythe Mugen 5 comes with all the parts necessary out of the box to install it to your system. This is one of those rather unusual designs that has you attaching the radiator via a hole that runs directly through it. On the plus side, however, Scythe has given you a screwdriver which will make the task much simpler.

In terms of the bracket design, it falls somewhere in the middle in terms of ease of use. It’s one of those designs that could be better and could be worse.

Although our manual was in English (unlike the below) the directions are relatively easy to follow. The only difficulty comes in the screws to attach the mounting bracket to the motherboard. You are given two different sets of screws (depending on your socket). On the surface, they appear very similar, however, are different and using the wrong ones will mean it may not make proper contact.

With this in mind, you would hope that the manual was rather clear in this regard and sadly it is not. You do, therefore, need to give it more than a little scrutiny to make sure you get this right. It’s not that the information provided is bad, it’s just a little cramped and perhaps needed a small annotation to make this one point much clearer.

In terms of installation time, the Mugen 5 TGA took me around 20 minutes. Admittedly, 5 minutes of that was spent making sure I definitely used the right screws for the mounting system. On the whole, though, it falls somewhere in the middle in terms of difficulty/time factors. I’ve seen much easier than this.  I have, however, also seen much, much, worse.
