Seagate Game Drive for Xbox 2TB Portable HDD Review

Pricing and Final Thoughts

This drive, the Game Drive for Xbox with 2TB from Seagate, won’t cost you much more than a AAA game and thereby not break your budget. At the time of this review, the drive is available for £64.99 and $79.99.

The Special Edition with Game Pass (1month) only costs a little more in the UK and the same in the US. It is priced at £67.49 and $79.99 at the time of writing.

Final Thoughts

I had a look at the Seagate Game Drive for Xbox today and what is there to say. It is a portable hard disk, intended to be used with your Xbox gaming console. That much is clear.

The design is clean and simple, yet good looking. The two colours, black and green, match the Xbox theme well. They also play well with each other. It works with any Xbox, whether it’s a One, One S, or 360.

The setup is as easy as it could be. There’s only a single cable to connect and very few configuration steps. Those steps are also guided by the Xbox, so you don’t need to know anything in advance. The drive is bus powered, as given by the use of a single cable. That makes the setup clean and organised.

With a drive like this, you can either just extend the available storage or take it all with you on the go. The drive is small enough to fit in your pocket, allowing you to take your games and progress with you whereever you go. If you’re one of them with hundreds of games, you could also use the drive to categorise your games by genre, for example.

Further, the use of an external drive can improve your experience when recording. Since you can record videos and store images to a different drive than the one your game is loading from, you can eliminate possible lags.

Should I Buy One?

The short answer is probably yes. It is a quality drive made from a company with many years of experience and tested to work perfectly with your Xbox consoles.

Yes, it is basically just a portable drive like any other. But why shouldn’t you get one to match your setup and that’s been tested to work flawlessly with your console? It doesn’t cost more than other portable HDDs, so there’s no reason not to get this one.

As a monthly subscriber, which a lot will be, you’ll quickly run out of space on your internal drive. Having an external, or multiple, will help you solve that problem.

Pros

  • Good performance
  • Up to 4TB capacity (2TB in the tested version)
  • Single-cable setup thanks to bus-power
  • Xbox branding and design to match your setup

Cons

  • None

“The Game Drive for Xbox is the perfect companion if you want to install more than your console can handle or if you want to take your games with you on the go.”
