Seagate IronWolf Health Management Now Also Available on Thecus and ASUSTOR

Synology was first, but they’re no longer the only one offering access to the advanced health management features of the Seagate IronWolf drives. Both Thecus and ASUSTOR now also support this feature and it is lovely to see the industry adopting the new feature.

What is IronWolf Health Management?

Seagate IronWolf Health Management improves system reliability by offering comprehensive embedded analysis and recovery software. Or so the official description reads. The Seagate IronWolf Health Management (IHM) does go beyond what traditional diagnostic tools, such as S.M.A.R.T., have to offer. Thanks to the intelligent analysis of the drive and its health, it is possible to prevent, intervene, and recover data that otherwise wouldn’t be possible.

At the same time, the IHM system helps Seagate with their advanced recovery service should the worst-case scenario happen. In case of fire, flood, or other damages, you can have Seagate try to recover your data. That’s even included with the Pro series drives, and Seagate has an impressive recovery rate.

Thecus NAS with ThecusOS 7.0

For Thecus owners, the new feature requires a NAS with ThecusOS 7.0 or later. This is the latest major version of the operating system which is worth to upgrade to either way. Drives that support the function are automatically detected and there’s no need to enable or install anything.

ASUSTOR NAS with ADM 3.0

Owners of an ASUSTOR NAS will need the latest operating system too, which is ADM 3.0. A Newer version will naturally also work. Even if you’re not a user of the Seagate IronWolf drives, you should upgrade to this latest version to get all the other improvements and benefits.

“As enterprises continue to expand their storage capabilities to meet market demands, drive health and reliability only becomes more important for our customers,” said Shawn Shu, president at ASUSTOR. “With this partnership, our customers can now more easily monitor the health of their NAS and enjoy the benefits of multiple layers of data protection.”

Synology NAS with DSM 6.1

Synology was the first company to offer support for Seagate’s IronWolf Health Management feature and naturally, they still support it. You’ll need DiskStation Manager 6.1 or later for the feature, and of course, a Seagate IronWolf or IronWolf Pro drive.
