Secret of Mana Remake is Coming!
Well, I certainly wasn’t expecting this. The classic and beloved SNES RPG, The Secret of Mana has a remake in production. Better still it’s due for release as early as next February.
The original SNES game is nearly 25 years old now but still, has an amazing following. Many believe it to be one of the greatest games ever released on the Super Nintendo. A significant number consider it the best JRPG of all time and some even consider it one of the greatest games of all times.
I did own Secret of Mana myself and while I do not treat it with the same reverence of Chrono Trigger or Link to the Past, it was a pretty amazing game.
A franchise that deserves a shot in the arm!
Remakes have been very popular over the last 5 years. Particularly in films, but also in games. We’ve seen several HD remasters or remakes of classic games in recent years. The whole remake trend has quietened down somewhat in recent months, although news still comes. We are still highly hopeful for a Shadow of the Colossus remake.
Secret of Mana certainly wasn’t on my radar though. As above, an awesome game, but after nearly 25 years the franchise was a little stale.
Although being part of the SNES Classic game list, a remake wasn’t anticipated. This is, therefore, great news for fans of classic old school RPG games.
After 25 years, will is still be good?
There’s no reason why not. The reported release via PCGamesN has many people delighted with this decision. Certainly some games do not age well, but the basic elements of RPG turn based games have not really changed in all this time and given the recent trend for retro style titles, this is adding fuel to that fire.
It’s certainly something to play while waiting for Square Enix to release the FF7 remake.
Secret of Mana is confirmed for release on the PS4, PS Vita and PC via Steam. Unfortunately no product page for the game exists yet, but you can view the release trailer below.
Just one more thing Square Enix… since you’ve done this… CHRONO TRIGGER REMAKE PLEASE!!!
