ShootMania Storm PC Preview

Shoot Mania Storm is a real mixed bag and a hard one for me to judge, as in many ways that I do like the game, I don’t like it in equal measure, it lacks so much compared to the usual multiplayer titles that I play, with no level progressions, perks, skills, weapon choices, what you see in your first game really is what you get in the whole package really, but on the other hand I like the way the limited options keep the playing field level for all involved, to some degree at least.

As a casual player of games like this, its enjoyable for a quick blast em up half hour, but after that I tend to get a little tired of the gameplay and it starts to feel a little repetitive, at the moment there aren’t many options in terms of maps either, but I’ll let the game off as it is in beta and that obviously means, more is to come.

But when it comes to the pro gaming scene, they will and in fact all ready are going mental for this game, it doesn’t matter what level your avatar is, there are no concerns about having the best load out, speed boosts, mods, weapons, attachments or any of that fuss, you pick it up and you put your skills to the test, if you want to win, your going to have to find the edge in your own ability to play the game, which is exactly the sort of food gaming tournaments want and exactly what this game provides.

So if your looking for some clan based action, this is where you want to be looking, but if your looking for some casual action then there are plenty of free-to-play games that offer the same kind of action, but with a lot more customisation options available to you, such as Blacklight Retribution, War Inc, Tribes Ascend and countless others, so while I’m not giving this game an award, there is a market for it and by this point of the review you’ll already know if this is the sort of game for you or not.

eTeknix will be hitting up Gamescom this month and ShootMania will be there from the 16th to the 19th of August, with a European-wide tournament organized by the ESL boasting a prize pool of up to 8000€ and I’ll be sure to take another look at it and see how its coming along on the pro gaming side of things, expect updates on that when it happens.
