Shuttle reveals an Intel H61 based XPC Barebone SH61R4

Two weeks ago we saw the announcement of a fanless compact PC , this week Shuttle as announced another compact PC, but based on Intel’s H61 platform: the XPC Barebone SH61R4.

Shuttle is pretty much looking to have the best in compact, low power consumption, therefore more environmental, and obviously practical solution for a restricted or non demanding workspace.

The XPC Barebone can accept any of Intel’s new second-generation Core processors, that includes i3, i5 and i7 for LGA1155, and energy-saving DDR3 memory for good performance and low energy consumption. Everything is cooled by a specially designed system of heat-pipes and a large speed controlled fan to allow for smooth operation.

Starting at the front we can see that this new addition doesn’t lack the important stuff, which is two USB2.0, as well as an audio in and microphone out, you get the power button as well as an LED activity light. You can also install a 5.25” optical drive if you so desire.

On the rear we find even more than we could ask for, but it’s better to have more than not enough, isn’t it? This Barebone features two DVI, one of which is DVI-I and the other DVI-D which can be controlled by the integrated graphics function from Intel’s processors without the need of any additional graphics card. Although if required, an additional card can be added, there are 2 expansion slots where you can fit any additional hardware. The connection will be guaranteed by a PCI-Express 2.0 running at x16 for your graphical card, although a PCI-Express 2.0 at x1 and a Mini-PCI-Express 2.0 at x1 are featured as well.

In continuation of the rear I/O we have a total of eight USB, six being USB2.0 and two USB3.0, a Gigabit Ethernet port, a 5.1 Audio port, and an optional COM serial port can be installed as well.

Data storage on this case is ensured by two internal 3.5” drives, so I’m afraid you’ll be limited to small sizes, but that’s what you want if you buy this product.

The aluminium case comes with a 250 Watt power supply although 300 Watt and 500 Watt power supply units are available but are sold separately.

“With its all-round compatibility, its performance can be adapted at any time to suit individual needs,” says Tom Seiffert, Head of Marketing & PR at Shuttle Computer Handels GmbH. “The R4 model also has the same front panel as the J4 that allows for creating personal front designs easily.”

Shuttle has also made a 360° video of its newly revealed product:

The XPC Barebone SH61R4 comes at a suggested retail price of €172 excluding VAT.
