Silverstone is expanding their Essential Series power supplies with new 80-Plus Gold models. This delivers superior performance to their previous Essential Series 80-Plus Bronze offerings, while maintaining value. These Essential “HG” series provides 550W, 650W and 750W options with semi-modular cables. These models are rated for continuous output at 40 degrees Celcius.
In usual Silverstone fashion, these units are compact and quiet. Even the 750W model measures only 150 x 160 x 86mm. Plus, it has the power density of 363W per liter. It uses a single +12V rail with active PFC. The components are cooled by a single 140mm fan, which stays around 500 rpm until it reaches more than half the load. Even at 80% load it only ramps up to 1000 rpm, making it sensibly quiet. Even at the highest RPM, it only registers at 18DB.
The cables are also equally stealthy, using a flat black design. These make them easier to manage and blends in the background of most black cases. The EPS12V 8-pin cable is also longer at 750mm so that it can route around the back. All other cables are 500mm long, which should be perfectly comfortable inside a full-tower case.
