SilverStone RM51 5U Rackmountable Server Case Review

Complete System

Building a system inside this case shouldn’t be hard, as it has plenty of space for literally any type of motherboard, CPU cooler, PSU size, or GPU on the market today, so compatibility is just a big green tick. It’s a slow build though, as none of the motherboard standoffs are pre-installed so that needed doing, and everything is small screws and brackets, not like modern gaming cases at all.

However, what is clear, is that it’s precision-engineered, as everything just seems to fit tighter and more securely than I typically see in cases I review. It’s a small detail, but you really can just feel this case and everything within feels like it has the foundation of a mountain.

The retaining bar offers SSD mounts, but also these really robust anti-sag arms. There are four arms included, but seven spaces for them, so you can move them to suit your build.

And screws… there are a lot of screws. Some are only half-translated, so it’s hard to say what they’re for. However, it seems black screws are for the exterior; mounting handles, feet, etc, while silver is for interior components.

Silverstone’s own DA1000R PSU fit with ease, but even if it didn’t, I can remove the HDD cage and put a freaking huge unit in here.

Cable routing is interesting, as there are no shroud or routing holes, there is one chamber in this case, so you have to strap cables into bundles yourself. However, you do get some adhesive pads with cable ties on them that you can place wherever you want.

A cable tie gets the job done; simple and effective.

I think it’s great that not only is there a big ATX gaming motherboard and an RTX 2080 in here, but there’s still a hilarious amount of space for a radiator, more cards, more storage… just MORE!

The biggest GPUs on the market today will drop in here without breaking a sweat.

With the side panel back in place, it looks pretty much as it did when I took it out of the box. Well, I added two big handles to it too, of course. Interestingly, you can put both handles on the side of the case, so that it’s easy to carry while in a vertical configuration, then pop the feet on the other side, and it’s ready to be moved around your office… should you ever need to do that.
