SilverStone SST-AR06 Low-profile CPU Cooler Review

Final Thoughts

Price

The SilverStone Argon SST-AR06 Low Profile CPU Cooler can be found at overclockers.co.uk for £29.99 + shipping here in the UK.  This is an outstanding price for what you’r getting. I was very surprised when I saw this figure, as I was expecting it to be towards the £40 – £45 mark

Overview;

I tested this cooler with high hopes. I have used SilverStone products in the past and I’ve always found high quality in both the design and user friendliness. SilverStone have managed to carry both the build quality and sturdiness of their other products such as the amazing TJ07 case over to a low profile cooler, something that you don’t often see.

With the very low profile design of this cooler and the small footprint, it’s perfect for mini ITX builds. I have 2 ITX machines both with low profile coolers and I firmly believe that this out performs them in terms of looks, quality, temperatures at stock and also idle acoustics.

I tried really hard to find things that I didn’t like about this product and in the end all I could find were little niggles, nothing that would put me off the product. I put it against the large coolers, the AIOs and the market leaders and this tiny product held its own. It struggled when trying to cool an overclocked processor under heavy load, but this is to be expected. More colours for the fans would be nice, but that is just personal preference.The only real problem I have is the mounting function, as removing and attaching the cooler so many times was a little bit tricky but under normal usage, rather than a test environment, even that wouldn’t be a problem.

Pros

  • Virtually silent performance
  • Great build quality
  • Smart, simple, premium  aesthetics

Cons

  • A little fiddly to install if you are removing the cooler often
  • Can’t quite handle heavy loads when the CPU is overclocked
  • Only available with a blue/white fan

“SilverStone are renowned for quality products with excellent design, great quality and innovative ideas, this cooler takes everything you expect from SilverStone and rolls it all up into one low profile, low cost product. With a small price tag and good performance, it does tick all the right boxes. “
