SilverStone Strider Platinum ST55F-PT 550W Review

Final Thoughts

Pricing

The Silverstone SST-ST55F-PT 550W 80 Plus Platinum Modular Power Supply is available from Overclockers UK for a very reasonable £81.95. While that may seem a little more than usual for a 550W unit, keep in mind the compact form factor, passive cooling feature and the platinum rating, to name but a few features.

Conclusion

Silverstone has done it again, delivering another seemingly simple, yet excellent performing power supply that will no doubt be well suited to a wide range of system builds. While not the most exciting looking unit, its capabilities more than make up for its lack of visual flair. With a super tight 140mm form factor, the number of compatible chassis is extremely high, and a welcome addition to the fact that many Platinum rated units can be a little bigger than normal. Here you get all the high-end benefits, without the burden of an increase in the size of the power supply.

The design is endlessly practical, with fully modular cables that allow you to use exactly what you need, as well as all flat cables, including the 24-pin which is more often than not a thicker and round cable on many PSU products, even if all the other cables are flat. Combined, flat and modular cables are going to make your cable routing a breeze.

Performance is the most important aspect, of course, and Silverstone is not lacking in that department. The 80 Plus Platinum efficiency is simply fantastic, as you’re going to be wasting less electricity and money to power your system. On top of that, we’ve got stable voltages with low ripple and an OPP system that will let you draw +150W more than the stock 550W rating when you really need it. If that wasn’t enough, we’ve got a fan that run virtually silent even when the unit is at 100% load but becomes literally silent below 20% loads.

Pros

  • 80 Plus Platinum efficiency
  • 140mm form factor
  • Virtually silent operation
  • Zero fan RPM below 20% load
  • All flat cables
  • Fully modular
  • Great OPP
  • Low ripple and stable voltages

Cons

  • None

“Once again, Silverstone is showing that they know how to create great hardware. Quiet, compact, efficient and clean power delivery and a wallet-friendly price. The SST-ST55F-PT 550W deserves a spot in your next system build.”
