Sims 4 Confirmed for Console Release After Microsoft Slip Up

The Sims 4 was released on PC in September 2014. Quite a while ago. One would usually expect, 3 years later for the game to be a bit of a non-story now. It had its moment in the sun, but it’s time has passed. Well, how wrong is that! EA has confirmed that after 3 years, the Sims 4 is finally coming to console.
The Sims 4 on Console? Awesome!
It’s unusual when such a popular game across such a broad spectrum stays on 1 platform for so long. Let’s be honest, if the Sims 4 was coming to consoles, we would have expected it to have happened 1-2 years ago. Certainly not 3 years after its original release.
So, how, you might be asking, did Microsoft slip up on this? Well, it’s nothing to do with the delay in console release. The mistake was spotted by eagle-eyed people perusing the Microsoft store. Apparently, they had accidentally, before the official announcement, began advertising the sale of the Sims 4 on the Xbox One.
Following this, EA felt that the cat was out the bag and summarily announced the console versions yesterday. They probably hoped that there could have been a little more fanfare about this. A definite missed opportunity.
You have to say, if someone was going to make a mistake, you’d have expected it to be EA rather than Microsoft.
When is the Sims 4 going to be released on consoles?
Sooner than you might think. The announcement, via NextPowerUp, confirmed that the Xbox One and PS4 versions of the Sims 4 will be released on November 17th this year. Less than 4 months away.
Now, a bigger question. Will it be any good? It’s hard to say. I used to like the Sims, however, the sheer amount of expansion bloatware they add to it left a bad taste in my mouth. The Sims 4, on PC, felt like a very basic game. Merely a graphic update of the original, however, with all of the cool stuff only being offered as purchasable add-on goods.
Given that the PC version is 3 years old now, and has more DLC expansions than you can shake a stick at, I would hope that the console release is going to be a little more inclusive. DLC is, after all, a bit trickier on consoles, particularly in the case of the Sims when there is simply just so much of it.
A game of the year style version makes the most sense to purchase, but I doubt that’s how it will be. EA love milking this cow and the DLC represent just another udder to squeeze the fan base for.
