Skyblivion is Rebuilding Oblivion in the Skyrim Engine

Looks like Morrowind isn’t the only Elder Scrolls game being remade in the Skyrim engine: fan favourite Oblivion is also getting the Skyrim treatment. The upgrade, dubbed Skyblivion, is being built by The Elder Scrolls (TES) Renewal Project, which is responsible for Morrowblivion and Skywind (you can see the portmanteau trend here), and will see Oblivion rebuilt from scratch, including all DLC, in the Skyrim engine.

Skyblivion is a project by TESRenewal and aims to bring Oblivion into Skyrim making use of the new technologies that we have access to to improve and enhance the game,” the developers say. “This includes all the quests and the story-line that we know and love from Oblivion.”

Skyblivion will boast brand new textures and custom models but, for now, TESRenewal is relying on vanilla character animations, since the team has no animator. However, it is seeking help from experienced modders to bring the game to life, including animators and additional 3D and texture artists. Visit the TESRenewal forums for more information.

There is no projected release date for Skyblivion yet – the project is still in its infancy, and the development team is not yet complete – but TESRenewal hopes to release Skyblivion for Skyrim: Special Edition.

Meanwhile, Skywind – TESRenewal’s Morrowind update using the Skyrim engine – is progressing well, as evidenced by the following October update video:
