Skyrim Special Edition PC Requirements Revealed

The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim is one of the best role-playing games on the PC platform and contains a stunningly detailed world. Saying that, the game’s UI left a lot to be desired and was optimised for controllers. Thankfully, Skyrim’s active modding community managed to fix this annoyance and create a whole host of innovative creations. In particular, the modding scene dramatically improved the texture quality, lighting effects and combat. Of course, these mods weren’t available on consoles and the vanilla version is looking fairly outdated. As a result, Bethesda decided to launch Skyrim Special Edition with enhanced graphics and a number of other tweaks. Even though it’s really designed for the console market, PC players can access the new version. Please note, if you own the original title and all the DLC, the new version will be free on Steam. Recently, Bethesda unveiled the minimum and recommended requirements for the game:

Minimum

  • Windows 7/8.1/10 (64-bit Version)
  • Intel i5-750/AMD Phenom II X4-945.
  • 8GB of ram.
  • 12 GB free HDD space
  • NVIDIA GTX 470 1GB /AMD HD 7870 2GB

Recommended

  • Windows 7/8.1/10 (64-bit Version)
  • Intel i5-2400/AMD FX-8320.
  • 8GB of ram.
  • 12 GB free HDD space
  • NVIDIA GTX 780 3GB /AMD R9 290 4GB

As expected, any relatively modern system should be able to play Skyrim Special Edition without encountering any issues. I’m interested to see if the recommend specification simply means 60 frames-per-second on Ultra at 1080p and what’s required to achieve the same alongside a 4K display.
