Bethesda officially announced Skyrim VR at E3 2017 although not much specifics were given about the release. Sony made the announcement on behalf of Bethesda at their press conference since apparently they will be getting exclusive rights initially. The word “exclusive” worried some fans, as this could often be needlessly lengthy. However, in a recent video by GameSpot, they confirmed that it will be heading to the HTC Vive sometime in 2018. A typical “exclusive” in the industry deal often lasts for a year. This means if Skyrim VR launches with PlayStation VR on November, expect the HTC Vive release on November 2018. If gamers are more optimistic, it could also be as short as six months, depending on how much Sony shelled out.
The information is confirmed in this GameSpot video around two minutes and 44 seconds.
Technically it should still work on the PC. Skyrim VR will require a new EXE file, but ultimately the assets are still the same. There are still some bugs that need to be worked out, but then again this is Bethesda. There will always be noticeable bugs in one way or another once it comes out.
