Sleeping Dogs Movie to Be Directed by “Nobody 2” Filmmaker
Despite receiving praise from both critics and players, Sleeping Dogs was not one of Square Enix’s biggest commercial successes. However, the open-world action game had a strong personality and was never truly forgotten by fans, many of whom still hope for a sequel. Whether that wish will ever come true remains unknown, but one thing is certain: a live-action movie adaptation is in development.
Simu Liu Confirms the Film and His Role
The confirmation came earlier this year from Simu Liu, star of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Liu will take on a dual role as both producer and lead actor, portraying protagonist Wei Shen. An important update has now arrived: the film will be directed by Timo Tjahjanto, the Indonesian filmmaker best known for Nobody 2.
Liu himself revealed the news by reposting a Sleeping Dogs video shared by Tjahjanto on X (formerly Twitter), along with the caption: “Ladies and gents, the director of Sleeping Dogs.”
At the moment, only a few details about the movie are known. In addition to Liu and Tjahjanto, the project also involves Story Kitchen, a production company known for adapting video games for film and television. In October, Liu also announced that the script has been completed.
For now, there is no information about the rest of the cast, when filming will begin, or when the movie might be released.
