Some Hardware and PC Manufacturers Are Receiving Priority Access to DRAM Memory
The shortage of DRAM memory chips continues to affect the prices of consumer RAM kits. It is also expected that SSDs and graphics cards will become more expensive as we approach 2026. However, pre-built desktop systems and laptops have not seen a major increase in cost.
According to Digitimes, memory manufacturers like Samsung and SK Hynix are giving priority treatment to certain hardware and computer makers, ensuring they receive memory before others.
Major Brands Benefit from Priority Supply

The report mentions major technology companies such as Apple, ASUS, Dell, and Lenovo. These brands offer products that use GDDR memory and also manufacture laptops and desktops with DDR5 modules. This situation means that smaller companies may face difficulties accessing memory components.
For example, Framework, a smaller PC manufacturer, recently announced another price increase on RAM due to limited availability.
It seems the situation is slowly improving, as memory makers are starting to adjust their production strategies to focus more on consumer-oriented memory. This benefits large hardware and PC manufacturers who have secured more stable supply agreements, helping them avoid price surges and delays in new product launches.
In other news, several major Japanese PC retailers suspended orders for desktop and built-to-order systems due to a global memory shortage.
