There was a rumour late last year that Haswell’s successor will have CPUs soldered on to the motherboard itself. Intel later gave a statement, where they didn’t really deny it properly.
Tech Report’s sources told them that some Broadwell processors will be permanently soldered on the motherboards, but this would be limited to only low-end Broadwell processors, which will not have an LGA socket counterpart in the market at all. As far as what has been told, LG socket mountable processors will not be ditched, at least according to the roadmap till 2016 at the very least.
This may lead to concerns among some motherboard manufacturers, especially when it comes to handling RMAs and repairs of the units with integrated low-end Broadwell processors.
