Sons of The Forest is the popular sequel to The Forest garnering the title of the most wish-listed game on steam not long before its release, Seeing as Andy and I as well as a few others in our Discord server have racked up plenty of hours in it over the past week we can definitely see why. Today Endnight games released their first major patch to the game.
So what are the important additions with this new patch well first of all the hang glider, this will definitely make it faster to traverse the map however it will probably require you to have a base fairly high up to make use of it and with our base being on the beach doesn’t serve us much use, that is until we finish our stairway to heaven.
Next up is the Binoculars a fairly simple tool that allows you to see further away, Definitely useful for scouting out cannibal camps or watching Andy chasing Kelvin down with a shotgun on the far side of the beach. The final Major feature addition is a new mid-game boss fight that is found in the food bunker which is a nice addition as at the moment we are pretty stacked and the average cannibal just gets minced by a couple of shotgun blasts.
Alongside these big additions, Endnight has added various new features including more story elements, some new animations for cannibals and birds, the ability to grab and move small furniture items as well as the fish trap which now works and catches fish every 5-10 minutes though who needs that when you have Kelvin though unfortunately with this update Kelvin now has a limit to how long he will catch fish for.
Endnight has also added various changes to help balance out the game surrounding your sleep, hunger and thirst levels as well as general difficulty tweaks. To balance out sleeping a sleep cooldown timer has been added as well as the possibility of your sleep being interrupted by nearby enemies. Linking in with sleep energy drinks has been nerfed and gives half as much hydration and a reduced energy buff.
Several tweaks have been added that make the hard difficulty… hard. With hard difficulty selected enemy health has been reduced to 1.25x health but their armour health has been increased by 1.5x. Now I mentioned earlier about the shotgun making the game fairly easy, well now the shotgun has had its damage halved so no more blasting through caves without a care in the world. If you are playing with friends you’ll find that the game can be a breeze but now the health of the creepies will scale based on how many players are in a lobby so watch out for Wormy Joe or as we call it “The Slinky”.
With these changes, there are also various fixes to improve performance, fix bugs and generally make the game better, you can read the full patch notes to find out more about all of these new additions.
