Sony Abandons Hideo Kojima’s Physint, Leaving Former Executive Shuhei Yoshida Surprised
In a surprising turn of events that few could have predicted, Sony has abandoned the Physint project, Hideo Kojima‘s ambitious action-espionage video game. The Japanese creator has now put the project in Microsoft’s hands, in a change of strategy that has surprised almost everyone among fans and people in the industry.
Among those who were surprised by today’s news is Shuhei Yoshida, the former president of Sony Worldwide Studios. “Wow, that surprised me,” reads the tweet published by Yoshida on his X profile.
Hideo Kojima’s Physint Moves to Microsoft After Sony Drops the Project
Although his original post was not published in response to anything specific, it is clear that he was referring to Sony’s decision to leave Physint. Even though he did not say much more, the simple fact that the news pushed a former executive like Yoshida to react this way seems extremely significant.
In the final years of his time at the Japanese company, Yoshida had moved slightly away from the spotlight to focus on Sony’s relationships with indie developers.
Among his last “wins,” we can mention Stellar Blade, with Shift Up forming a partnership with Sony thanks to Yoshida’s good judgment.
Currently, not much is known about this new project. As more information becomes available, we’ll make sure to let you guys know here at eTeknix.
