Sony Seemingly Disables PlayStation Plus subscription stacking

Since the start of the year, there had been more than a few rumours suggesting that Sony was planning to launch a pretty significant overhaul of its PlayStation Plus subscription service. – Looking to effectively bring it more in line with the (in my opinion) significantly better Xbox Game Pass, I daresay that many of you who are PS Plus members got your confirmation email earlier this week. Namely, one that stated that the new three-tier subscription service would be set to kick off this June.

With this in mind, therefore, and a brand new three-tiered payment system, it’s not exactly surprising to see that many people were looking to grab a few standard 12-month cards. You know, to slap a few years on their account to keep things covered and hopefully, and ultimately, have to pay less for the higher tier levels of service for the next couple of years.

Following a report via Eurogamer, however, if you have been considering doing this yourself, don’t! – Why, well, it appears that Sony has already thought about this and, accordingly, has applied the brakes!

Sony Suspends PlayStation Plus Subscription Stacking!

Although not yet categorically confirmed, many users have gone to Twitter to state that when attempting to put a new 12-month subscription card onto an existing PlayStation Plus subscription, they’re being met with an error message telling them to try again later. – And if you’ve experienced this yourself, then we can tell you now that your card is fine (so don’t throw it away), but at the same time, you’re probably going to have a wait a while before you can activate it.

Why? Well, as above, with the highest tier service set to increase prices, Sony doesn’t want an influx of people attempting to abuse the system by having 3-5 years’ worth of PlayStation Plus on their account before the changes come into place. – This also, additionally, appears to be the case with more ‘honest’ consumers whose subscriptions are about to end and are getting a similar error message. – Put simply, it would appear that until your current period has ended, you cannot apply any pre-paid PlayStation Plus subscription cards to your account.

Yes, this might be annoying, with with the new system set to be significantly more complicated than the old one, Sony is clearly looking to close as many potential ‘loopholes’ as possible.
