When it comes to the next generation of popular gaming consoles we seem to have heard an awful lot about the Xbox 360’s successor, thought to be Xbox 8, yet we have heard precious little about the successor for the PS3. If the PlayStation naming strategy continues, which we expect it will, then the PS4 is due next.
New details have emerged about the PS4, thanks to a LinkedIn CV of former Sony research and development director Attila Vass. In his CV he mentioned working on the next generation PlayStation between 2010 and 2012. Indicating that work on the PS4 began back in 2010, 2 years ago.
The details about what he worked on include graphics and console security:
“I worked on graphics ( COLLADA, PSGL ) and a lot of network related technologies ( advertising, telemetry, PVRs ) for the Playstation2-x, PSP, Vita and Next Generation platforms. Platform security was occupying most of my time at the last years… ”
Thankfully for Vass he was smart enough not to release too much information that could put him in legal jeopardy, however, that leaves us with only scrapings of information.
At the end of the day, the long and short of the whole scenario is, PS3 sales still remain incredibly strong thanks to the integration of a Blu Ray player and as such Sony are in no rush to release the PS4. Sony’s successor will probably be ready close to the launch of Microsoft’s next generation Xbox console, but we still expect Microsoft’s Xbox to be ready first.
