Sony Rejects the Idea of Releasing First-Party Games on PS Plus at Launch
One of Xbox’s most beloved strategies among gamers is that exclusive titles are directly available on Game Pass (Ultimate, for some time now) at the time of their release. Sony players certainly wouldn’t mind if the same happened on PlayStation Plus, but it seems that the Japanese publisher is not at all in favor of this idea, just as it wasn’t in the past.
The information comes from Game File, which spoke with Nick Maguire, Vice President of PlayStation Global Services.
Sony’s Stance on PS Plus Games
Maguire explained that Sony is not planning to release first-party games directly on PlayStation Plus at launch and insisted that the company prefers to wait at least a year before making an AAA exclusive available on the subscription service.
He also mentioned Sony’s other strategy, which is to release four or five indie games per year at launch. In general, Sony prefers to collaborate with third-party publishers to bring games to PS Plus at launch, such as FBC: Firebreak, Dave the Diver, Animal Well, and Blue Prince… thus adding value to the subscription.
PlayStation Classics Catalog Update
Maguire also commented on the PlayStation Classics catalog, stating that the company tries to add at least one game per month and that the removal of games like the two Resistance titles and inFamous Second Son (both Sony exclusives) is due to the desire to keep the catalog fresh and help people discover new games.”=
