While Sony is not aiming to take on Apple’s AirPods or JBL’s Free in terms of portability, they are nonetheless busy working on advanced headphone technology to make life comfortable. Their latest announcement in particular is the WI-1000X, an expensive £300 wireless headphone with active noise-cancelling features. At that price, it is obviously taking a direct shot at the Bose QuietControl 30 headphone instead. However, Sony made the decision to go for a more portable route.
The Sony WI-1000X is a neckband style in-ear headphone so it fits in anyone’s pocket. It is available in black and in gold, which actually looks like a pale silver in some light. Users can enjoy up to 10-hours of continuous music listening and it can also be used for hands-free calling. The neckband has a vibration feature, notifying users of incoming calls.
The WI-1000X has a 9mm dynamic driver that maintains drive force for deep bass and clear mids. Meanwhile, it also has an airtight Balanced Armature driver providing sustained natural high frequency sound. The WI-1000X also adjusts ambient sound depending on the user’s activity so the listening experience is optimal.
The £300 WI-1000X is now available worldwide. Each package comes with a micro-USB cable, a 3.5mm to micro-USB cable, airplane jack adapter, alternate headphone tips and a carrying case.
