Sony Reportedly Dropped Kojima’s Physint Over Budget Overruns and Development Delays
By now, you will probably have already read about Physint moving from PlayStation to Xbox, as Sony has decided to end its relationship with Kojima and no longer fund the development of the highly anticipated spiritual successor to Metal Gear.
But what really happened between the two sides? A report by Jason Schreier published by Bloomberg may have revealed the answer.
Possible Reasons Behind the Split Between Sony and Kojima
According to the report, the Japanese giant decided not to continue funding the project because it kept going over budget, as well as the delays that had built up. At another point in time, Sony might have still accepted Kojima’s requests and his schedule, but this time there are two major past cases to consider: Death Stranding and Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.
It appears that neither title satisfied Sony because sales were below expectations despite investments worth millions. Not only that, but the Japanese giant was also reportedly unhappy that the game would only be a timed exclusive and would sooner or later arrive at least on PC.
It also appears that several people who had long-standing ties with Hideo Kojima have recently left Sony, another reason why relations between the two sides may have become worse to the point that Sony was willing to risk the game’s cancellation.
If this is confirmed, it would also show how Sony’s top management has become much stricter when approving projects, following the painful failures of games like Concord and Marathon.
