Sony Reveal Hyperpop DualSense Conntrollers and Console Covers
Sony has been on a roll lately with their aesthetic refreshes, and the latest announcement leans heavily into the vibrant primary colours. Sure PlayStation still has some catching up to do with Xbox when it comes to releasing custom controllers, which is to say Xbox release more peripherals than games these days (not a good thing). The new Hyperpop Collection introduces a bold, high-gloss aesthetic to the PlayStation 5 ecosystem, moving away from the matte finishes we’ve seen in previous collections like the Deep Earth or Volcanic Red series.
The Hyperpop Collection
The Hyperpop Collection consists of three distinct colourways: Techno, Remix, and Rhythm. Each design features a striking gradient that transitions from deep, glossy blacks into high-saturation neon hues. Unlike previous iterations, these controllers and covers utilise a high-gloss coating designed to catch and reflect the light from your existing RGB setup.
One of the more interesting technical details for the console covers is the inclusion of a “subtle hint of transparency,” which should offer a unique depth when paired with the internal lighting of the PS5 console itself.
I do miss the day of modding my old PlayStation with transparent colour cases, but it’s not so easily done on modern consoles.

Key Features and Specifications
- Three New Colourways: Techno, Remix, and Rhythm.
- High-Gloss Finish: A shift from the standard matte texture to a reflective, premium coating.
- Seamless Gradients: Colours wrap around both the front and back of the DualSense controllers.
- Transparent Accents: Console covers feature semi-transparent elements for added visual depth.
- Full Ecosystem Support: Matching covers available for PlayStation 5 consoles alongside the DualSense wireless controllers.

Design Inspiration
According to Sony’s Color, Material, and Finish design team, the goal was to create something that complemented the increasingly bright and colourful environments of PC and console enthusiasts. Leo Cardoso noted that the collection was “inspired by the glow of the RGB lights of your impressive gaming setups,” while Sae Kobayashi added that the “seamless gradient wraps around the front and back of the DualSense, finished in a high-gloss coat that makes the colours pop more than ever.”
What We Think
Sony knows their audience loves to customise, and the Hyperpop Collection feels like a direct nod to the “aesthetic” gaming culture found on social media. While the high-gloss finish might be a magnet for fingerprints, the visual impact is undeniable. It is also nice to see the console covers getting a bit of transparency, which is a design choice we haven’t seen Sony play with much. I do wish they would sell the PS1 grey theme as a kit though.
Pricing and Availability
The Hyperpop Collection is scheduled to launch on 12 March 2026. However, if you want to secure yours early, pre-orders open on 16 January 2026 at 10 am local time.
- Hyperpop DualSense Wireless Controllers: £74.99 / $84.99 USD / €84.99
- Hyperpop PS5 Console Covers: £64.99 / $74.99 USD / €74.99
Pre-orders will be handled directly through Sony at direct.playstation.com starting in mid-January, though they will also be available at most major participating retailers. Keep in mind that the console covers are traditionally produced in more limited quantities than the controllers, so if you have your heart set on a specific colour to match your desk, you might want to move quickly on the pre-order date.
