Ultra HD TVs are really cool and I love the one I have myself, but what’s even cooler are 4K UHD projectors. Along the reveal of Sony’s first UHD Blu-ray player, we also got a view on their take on a 4K UHD projector. This new and incredibly cool piece of technology is called the VPL-VW675ES and it is an uber high-end projector.
This projector will be one of the first home projectors, if you can call it that for its asking price, that will support the Hybrid Log-Gamma (HyLG) which is a relatively new standard developed for HDR broadcasting – but it won’t support it out of the box. The feature will be added later via a firmware update. Instead, it will support the already known HDR10 which probably is the most prominent HDR standard supported by UHD Blu-ray players and streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon.
Specifications wise, the VPL-VW657ES will come with two HDMI 2.0a input ports with HDCP 2.2 support. The lamp is rated for 1800 lumens brightness and it comes with a dynamic contrast ratio of 350,000:1. For easy of installation and use, it comes with an auto-calibration function that allows users to reset the projector’s colorimetry to factory levels.
And yes, you read right in the headline. The Sony VPL-VW657ES will have cost you $15,000 when it becomes available for purchase this November. That’s not for the small wallets, but it’s also a pretty impressive device.
