With the Xbox One taking a huge battering in the press recently (although since writing this Microsoft has made a huge U-turn on policies) Sony has now admitted that it is likely, from what they’ve seen so far in terms of demand, that the PlayStation 4 will probably become sold out. They believe between now and launch the supply of PlayStation 4 consoles will be limited in terms of availability.
Sony’s Jack Tretton spoke to Forbes magazine and said the following:
“I certainly think, given the technology that we’re offering, given the software lineup, given the price point we have, that we’ll have consumers interested in excess of what we’re able to manufacture”
Sony’s PS4 does not yet have an official release date but most are expecting it to get released later on this year, probably in late Q3 or early Q4. There have been rumours that Sony may skip a launch in Japan to ensure it has enough stock to meet the needs of the European and North American launch.
Either way the message is clear, don’t be surprised if the Sony PS4 sells out so you might want to pick one up as soon as possible if you are interested in getting one. That said, if you can’t get one then your only console alternative will be the Xbox One, so maybe Microsoft can profit on Sony’s inability to meet demand?
