Sony Takes a Thoughtful Approach in Choosing PC Game Releases to Protect PS5’s Value
The presence of PlayStation first-party games on PC has now become a well-established reality, and it no longer surprises anyone. It’s clear to everyone that Sony will eventually release its major titles on PC, though with a delay compared to the PlayStation versions. However, PC players have already been able to enjoy games like The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered or God of War, and that’s what truly matters.
Sony’s Strategy for PC Ports
In the past, Sony had expressed a desire to be more aggressive with its PC ports. However, during a meeting with investors last Friday, Hermen Hulst, the head of PlayStation Studios, explained that the company would continue with a cautious approach when it comes to cross-platform releases, selecting each case carefully to protect the value of the PlayStation 5.
When asked about the industry trend toward multiplatform games, Hulst responded: “You’re quite right that we’re continuously exploring new ways for players to interact with our franchises.”
He went on to add: “It’s important to realize that we’re really thoughtful about bringing our franchises off console to reach new audiences and that we’re taking a very measured, very deliberate approach in doing that. Particularly on the single-player side, our tentpole titles, they’re such a differentiator.”
Hulst concluded by saying: “The point of differentiation, I should say, for the PlayStation console, is that they will showcase the performance and the quality of the hardware. So we want to ensure that players get the best experience from these titles. We’re very thoughtful about how and if and how we bring these titles to other platforms.”
