Sony Takes Down Bloodborne 60 FPS Mod Four Years After Its Release

Modder Lance McDonald has removed the 60 FPS mod for Bloodborne from the internet after Sony requested it. The mod, originally published in 2021, allowed players to experience the game at a smoother frame rate on PlayStation 4.
Sony Requests Removal of Fan-Made 60 FPS Patch
McDonald shared the news on X (formerly Twitter), stating that Sony did not provide a reason for their request, and the company has not publicly commented on the decision.
Bloodborne, developed by FromSoftware, is one of the most acclaimed games directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, known for Dark Souls and Elden Ring. The game runs at an unstable 30 FPS on PS4 and suffers from frame pacing issues, affecting its overall smoothness.
Unlike other titles, Bloodborne never received a performance patch for PS4 Pro, which could have addressed these technical issues. Even when played on PS5 or PS5 Pro, the game still runs at 30 FPS, though slightly more stable, but the frame pacing problems remain.
Fans Still Waiting for a Bloodborne Remaster
Many fans have long requested a remaster, a remake, or even a PC version, which would allow more players to experience the game with improved performance. This is what led McDonald to develop his 60 FPS mod. Back in 2020, he demonstrated that Bloodborne could run at 60 FPS on PS4 by lowering the resolution to 720p. After giving Sony time to release an official patch, he finally published his own version in February 2021, which was usable on modified PS4 consoles.
Despite the ongoing demand, Sony has remained silent on the future of Bloodborne. However, in a video celebrating PlayStation’s 30th anniversary, the game was briefly mentioned. Shuhei Yoshida, former president of SIE Worldwide Studios, suggested earlier this year that the reason Bloodborne has not been remastered or remade could be because Hidetaka Miyazaki himself wants to oversee the project. However, at the moment, he does not have the time to work on it.
