Sony Will Continue to Adjust PS Plus Prices, More Players Choosing Extra and Premium
Hideaki Nishino, the executive director of Sony Interactive Entertainment, answered some key questions, mainly from investors, regarding the pricing of the PS Plus subscription and the growing popularity of the Extra and Premium plans.
According to a chart provided by Sony, since 2022, the percentage of subscribers to the higher-tier plans, which offer more benefits, has been growing each year. “Subscribers are increasingly choosing Premium and Extra tiers, which now represent approximately 38% of all subscribers,” said Nishino.
Growing Popularity of Extra and Premium Plans
In fiscal year 2022, the percentage of users with PS Plus Premium was 17%, and Extra was 13%. By fiscal year 2024, the percentage had increased to 22% for Premium and 16% for Extra.
Nishino confirmed that players appreciate PS Plus and noted, “We are already seeing a trend towards the option of higher tiers within our service, as evidenced by the subscriber mix we achieved in FY2024, where approximately 38% are now subscribed to PlayStation Plus Premium or Extra tier.”
“This is even after the global price increases we implemented in FY2023, and more recently, the local price increases in selected countries to improve our pricing strategy across certain market clusters, and also to account for [foreign exchange] movements.”
Will PS Plus Prices Increase?
Nishino didn’t clearly confirm a price increase but hinted that it could change as they continue to add more value and adjust the “pricing strategy in a dynamic way to maximize profitability.”
