Spectre Update Released After Intel Works With Microsoft

You may recall that earlier this year it was revealed that some pretty serious security flaws were found within various Intel processors. Basically, anything from the 6th-generation onwards. The actual danger of the threat was never truly explored, but at the very least, the certain potential for the compromise of your system data was there.

It may have taken a little time, but it appears that fixes are now on the way. A new Windows 10 update has been released today which applies various updates to Intel users to help prevent at least two types of Spectre infiltration as well as L1 Terminal Fault issues.

What Will The Update Do?

On the official update page, Microsoft has said that the patch includes the following fixes;

  • Spectre Variant 3a (CVE-2018-3640: “Rogue System Register Read (RSRE)”)
  • Spectre Variant 4 (CVE-2018-3639: “Speculative Store Bypass (SSB)”)
  • L1TF (CVE-2018-3620, CVE-2018-3646: “L1 Terminal Fault”)

These fixes have been made following a collaborative effort between both Intel and Microsoft.

Where Can I Update?

This update has been included as part of the October Update. You know, the October update that only release a couple week ago. As such, if your system is yet to apply this, then it should be included automatically. If you are uncertain, then Intel users can, of course, use the manual update check on windows.

Alternatively, the update can be manually downloaded from the link here!
