Speedlink Decus Respec Gaming Mouse Review

Final Thoughts

Price

The Decus Respec is available from a few retailers, with prices ranging from around £40 – £55, which is about £10 more than the old model, but given that it performs better in every respect than the last Decus, it’s worth the extra money. We do think the top price you should pay is around £40-45 though, otherwise it’s stepping on the toes of some of the bigger gaming brands products.

Overview

Speedlink might not have the badge envy of brands like Logitech, Razer, Corsair and a few others, but it’s clear that over the years they’re working to create very competitive gaming peripherals. They once had a reputation for just being a budget brand and I think it has been hard for them to move into the more competitive gaming market recently, but with the Decus Respec showing that it has the chops to compete, they’re obviously making the right choices.

The performance of the Decus Respec leaves us with nothing to complain about. The sensor is spot on, with smooth tracking throughout the DPI range, the software offers up all the usual customisation options we could ask for, including a macro engine and programmable buttons, and the switches are certainly responsive. Added bonuses such as the weight tuning system also helps you tweak the overall feel of the mouse to suit your taste, and that’s never a bad thing.

The build quality is pretty good, and the choice of materials feel good, while also complimenting the overall design thanks to the contrasting blacks and reds of the top and side panels. The addition of a durable braided cable not only improves the quality but also looks pretty slick too.

Pros

  • Good build quality
  • Great sensor performance
  • Weight tuning system
  • Fully programmable
  • Rapid fire button
  • LED lighting
  • Comfortable ergonomics (right hand only)

Cons

  • None

Neutral

  • Speedlink brand name doesn’t have the badge envy of competing products
  • Price varies quite a bit from retailer to retailer, should be no more than £45 in our opinion

“Speedlink have done a great job with the Decus Respect, offering a huge improvement over their previous model in every respect. A great mouse for work and gaming if you can find it at the right price.”
