If you have been waiting for the Final Fantasy 9 remake, there is some very bad news. The latest rumors about the project, which has never been officially announced by Square Enix, are not very encouraging.
The information comes from video game journalist Alex Donaldson, who said on ResetEra that the Japanese company decided to stop work on the project even though development had reached a very advanced stage.

Donaldson also said that Square Enix had planned Final Fantasy 9 Remake as a single game, meaning there was no FF7-style plan involving several games in development.
At the moment, it is not clear why the game was put aside, but some believe that the disappointing sales of Rebirth may be one of the reasons, pushing the company to focus less and less on its past games. The plan would therefore be to release Revelations and then focus on completely new titles.
However, the project could still return, as it does not appear to have been cancelled. Those hoping for a remake of the ninth chapter should therefore not give up, because it could still arrive in the future.
