SSD and HDD Prices Could Rise by Up to 30%
In the coming weeks, the prices of hard drives (HDDs) and solid-state drives (SSDs) could increase by as much as 30%, marking one of the biggest price hikes in recent years.
The main reason is the exponential growth in demand from data centers, especially those dedicated to artificial intelligence. These facilities require huge amounts of storage capacity and are consuming most of the supply.
A key factor is the growing need for NAND memory, which is essential for most SSDs. The pressure on manufacturers has led to price adjustments, with increases designed to take advantage of an increasingly demanding market.
Impact on HDDs and Consumer Products
Traditional hard drives, while not dependent on NAND memory, will also be affected indirectly. They play a fundamental role in cold data storage; large volumes of information that don’t need immediate access but must still be preserved. As digital infrastructure grows, their use remains relevant, and supply chain pressure will impact them as well.
The effect will be most noticeable in consumer products. SSDs, used in desktop PCs, laptops, and gaming consoles, will see the sharpest increases. Hard drives, although facing a more moderate rise, will not escape higher prices.
Those planning to upgrade their devices or buy external storage should consider doing so soon to avoid paying more in the coming weeks or months.
