Star Citizen Alpha 3.0 Release Delayed Until September

Star Citizen fans have been bracing themselves for a major alpha 3.0 release for August. However, it appears that they have to wait just a little bit more until sometime in early to mid-September. The news comes directly from the latest schedule report on the Roberts Space Industries website. The further delay frustrates many fans so the longer post explaining why exactly was necessary.

Current Star Citizen Roadmap

The Star Citizen team explains the delay directly through a forum post as well. It boils down to the fact that the technological boundaries of what was originally possible has been pushed. This in turn introduces several more unaccounted variables which further introduced delays. The post further states that the scope of the 3.0 update is far from insignificant, and that it introduces “a level of tech and infrastructure that’s an order of magnitude larger and more complex than all  previous versions combined. There are thousands of new assets, millions of entities to manage, new UI, new features, multiple new backend services, etc…in 3.0.”

Additional contents also lengthens time due to extra bug fixing requirements. The post further asks fans not to read malice behind the delay. Emphasizing that there is no deliberate effort to hamper release. What the Star Citizen team reiterates is that they are focusing on quality above all else. Director of Player Relations Will Everett adds “It’s also important to consider that what 3.0 meant a year ago is a shadow of what 3.0 means today. Back then, Planetary Tech would have offered a fraction of the freedom that it does in 3.0, and most of the numerous infrastructure updates going into it now did not exist.”

Judging by the comments on the Roberts Space Industries forums however, this explanation is unacceptable for some fans.
