Starfield Is the Best-Selling Game in the US During PS5 Launch Week
It seems that the official data, at least for the US market, is more positive than early estimates for the launch of Starfield on PS5. The Bethesda game became the best-selling game of the week in the United States.
Despite some technical issues that affected performance, including crashes that led some users to request refunds, Starfield still managed to take the top spot in sales during the week of April 6 to April 12 in North America.
Starfield Tops US Weekly Sales After PS5 Release
This information was shared by Mat Piscatella from Circana, a reliable source for sales data. It is not clear if this result directly contradicts earlier estimates from Alinea Analytics, but it is possible that those estimates were a bit too low.
In this case, these are actual sales data, not just estimates, so they give a more accurate view of the situation. The release of Starfield on PS5 clearly led to a strong increase in sales.
As Piscatella explained, this is the first time that Starfield has returned to the top of the weekly sales chart in the US since its original launch on PC and Xbox Series X|S in September 2023.
Recent updates may have also helped boost sales on other platforms. On April 7, the game received updates such as “Rotte Libere” and “Terran Armada”, which may have increased interest on PC and Xbox. However, the main reason for this sales boost is clearly the launch on PS5.
At the same time, Starfield recently received a patch that fixes crashes, although for now this fix is only available on PS5 Pro.
In addition, the game has been rated in Taiwan for a possible Nintendo Switch 2 version, suggesting that it could also arrive on that platform in the future.
