State of Decay 3 Is Alive and Doing Well, Says Xbox Game Studios Boss
It’s been a long time since we’ve heard any real news about State of Decay 3, and fans are starting to get worried. Given how unpredictable the gaming industry can be, a long silence often raises doubts. So, it’s interesting to see what Craig Duncan, the head of Xbox Game Studios, had to say about the game’s progress.
While his reply wasn’t a clear answer, his tone didn’t suggest anything negative either. Duncan mentioned that he has visited the development team several times in recent months and that the game “is coming on really well.” It’s not a confirmation that everything is perfect, but it’s at least a small update — something fans have been waiting for.
Regular Visits and Hands-On Testing
In an interview with GamesRadar (thanks Pure Xbox), Duncan joked, “I think the [PR] in this room will murder me if I give you the answer to that.” Despite the joke, he hinted that he has spent quite a bit of time with the team behind State of Decay 3.
He explained, “I have done a number of visits to that studio in the last six to eight months. I have sat and played the game with the team a bunch of times. It’s coming on really well.”
Duncan also added, “We’re very excited about the franchise and its potential. So I will certainly see a lot more of it in the coming year… is that a good answer to your question?” he said, laughing.
Duncan’s closing comments suggest that State of Decay 3 is still far from release — possibly aiming for 2027, as many fans have already guessed. Meanwhile, State of Decay 2 received its last major update in October 2024, and the next installment was last seen in a story trailer at the Xbox Games Showcase 2024.
