During Gamescom, which opened with the exciting announcements of Opening Night Live 2026, the Xbox team shared new details about State of Decay 3, once again talking about the ambitious multiplayer-focused survival game following the separation from Undead Labs.
The first and perhaps most important detail from the former Xbox Game Studios subsidiary is the confirmation that State of Decay 3 will launch in 2027 on PC, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. The game will also be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one.
State of Decay 3 New Closed Beta Announced
The Seattle-based studio is also working to finish State of Decay 3 by using suggestions received from players who took part in the recent closed playtesting sessions. Undead Labs has now announced another closed Beta testing phase, but this time a much larger number of players will be able to take part. Those interested can already register for the State of Decay 3 Beta.
By involving a larger group of survival game fans, the developers will be able to carry out the tests and changes needed before the servers officially open.
Undead Labs explained that the next playtest “is designed to feed directly back into development, from balancing co-op combat encounters to fine-tuning how the game’s new permadeath systems ripple through a community of survivors.”
