Steam Deck Client Update Polishes Controller Support
Valve has rolled out a fresh client update for the Steam Deck, focusing heavily on quality-of-life improvements and expanded controller compatibility. While many updates focus on “under the hood” stability, this one brings some welcome fixes for long-standing bugs and adds support for the latest hardware, ensuring your handheld experience remains as smooth as possible.
Steam Deck Controller Fixes and New Hardware
One of the most notable additions is the re-enabling of wired support for the Nintendo Switch 2 controller, alongside official support for the Razer Raiju V3 Pro. Valve has also addressed a specific hang that occurred when connecting a Nacon PS4 Compact Controller, which should be a relief for budget-conscious docked players.
The update also introduces “Gyro to Joystick Deflection” with a new “Drag Centre Point” option. This is a clever addition for gyro users; it allows the centre point to follow your movement when you hit maximum deflection, making it much more intuitive to snap back to a neutral position.
Tell me more
Beyond the hardware support, the UI has seen some refinement. When you plug in a new controller, the glyphs (the button icons) in the footer now update instantly, rather than waiting for you to press a button.
There are also several game-specific fixes. Classic titles like Mafia II, Football Manager 2012, and Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead, which previously suffered from DRM crashes or missing registry errors, should now run without a hitch.
Key Features of the Update:
- Expanded Support: Compatibility added for Razer Raiju V3 Pro and Nintendo Switch 2 (Wired).
- Privacy Boost: Group chat members who aren’t on your friends list can no longer DM you by default.
- Library Filters: You can now filter your library by language and specific accessibility features.
- Advanced Gyro Tuning: New “Circular” response curves and a toggle for “Smooth Fine Movements” to reduce input lag on modern controllers.
- SD Card Fix: Resolved an issue where the “Format SD Card” button remained greyed out after inserting a card.
What we think
This is a solid “housekeeping” update from Valve. While it doesn’t bring any flashy new features to the Steam Deck UI, the fixes for older games and the more granular control over Gyro settings show that they are still listening to the power users. The change to group chat privacy is also a very welcome move to cut down on unsolicited spam.
Where to buy
