Steam Deck Game Compatibility Tool Released

The Steam Deck is almost here, and I must admit, I really want one, but at the same time I don’t really need one… so I’m going to be a good boy, and wait a while after launch before picking one up. However, eager or not, if you want to find out which games in your own Steam library will (or won’t) work well enough on your chosen model, you can no do so using their simple online compatibility tool!

Basically, just hit up the link here. Sign in to your Steam account, and it’ll check all your owned games and tell you what will and won’t work. It really is that simple. Plus, it’s important, as if you’re buying it for a few particular games, and they won’t work… save yourself a few quid and don’t buy one. However, from the looks of it, support it bloody excellent, and a lot of things will work just fine. However, I suspect Battlefield and Call of Duty titles will work horrendously, however, I place all the blame on the games being crap, and it has nothing to do with Steam Deck, I just wanted another jab at those franchises.

The Steam Deck runs SteamOS, a custom Linux distribution with the Proton compatibility layer allowing for Windows titles to run in that ecosystem. The game compatibility test puts games into three categories, verified, playable, and unsupported. However, there’s also a section of untested titles, but that will be an ongoing endeavour, and I’m sure end-user testing will lead to a healthy knowledge base in the coming weeks and months. Verified titles are ones that don’t need any custom configuration to play, but I suspect some titles may see mods or updates to help better fit the requirements and control schemes of the device too.
