Steam Sets New Record for Concurrent Users, Boosted by Monster Hunter Wilds

Recently, Steam has reached a new record for concurrent users online according to data from SteamDB. The platform hit an impressive 40,270,997 users online at the same time, with 12,812,379 of them actively playing games, setting another record in that area as well.

These new peaks have been happening almost every month for a while now, driven by the natural growth of the Steam platform, which increases the number of registered users. However, it’s also possible that Monster Hunter Wilds has contributed to this new achievement.

Continuous Growth for Steam

As we’ve seen, the new action RPG from Capcom, which just released, already beat Elden Ring and Cyberpunk 2077 on its first day on the platform. Even though it has received a lot of negative reviews due to crashes and performance issues, it has likely played a part in bringing a large number of players to Steam during this period.

Steam’s growth continues to be steady. Month after month, the platform has been setting new records for concurrent users, with notable peaks seen last September and December. However, the number reached recently is the highest ever seen in Steam’s history. It’s expected that this record will be broken again soon, especially considering that 2025 looks like it will bring many new releases capable of attracting a large number of online players.

Of course, many of these users are simply online on Steam but not actively playing. They are in an “idle” state, which is still recorded by the system. However, it is worth noting that this peak also includes the highest number of active players in-game.
