SteamOS Officially Coming to Lenovo Legion Go 2 With AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme in June 2026
Lenovo has confirmed that it will be the first company to offer SteamOS on an AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor, officially launching its Legion Go 2 handheld gaming console with Valve’s operating system.
Lenovo Legion Go 2 with SteamOS
For the first time, AMD’s top chip for portable consoles — the Ryzen Z2 Extreme — will have official SteamOS support. Lenovo announced that the Legion Go 2 with SteamOS pre-installed will arrive in stores in June, replacing Windows 11 as the default system.
Currently, SteamOS can already be downloaded directly from Steam’s support website, where users can find detailed installation steps. This means that Windows can be easily replaced with Valve’s system. However, it has not yet been confirmed whether SteamOS can be installed on the existing Windows-based Legion Go model.
Lenovo’s announcement introduces a slightly refreshed version of the Legion Go 2. It remains largely similar to last year’s model but includes several hardware improvements. The console features the AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme processor, equipped with 3 Zen 5 cores and 5 “5c” cores, reaching speeds of up to 5GHz and 3.3GHz respectively.
Power, Display, and Performance Specs
The console’s TDP (thermal design power) is set at 28W, with an adjustable range between 15W and 35W. Graphics performance comes from AMD’s RDNA 3.5 architecture, which includes 16 compute units for smooth and powerful gaming. The Legion Go 2 also boasts 32GB of LPDDR5x memory and 2TB of storage, expandable by another 2TB through microSD cards.
The display remains identical to the Windows model — an 8.8-inch OLED panel with a resolution of 1920×1200, a 144Hz refresh rate, and VESA DisplayHDR True Black 1000 certification. It also supports 10-point touchscreen functionality, providing smooth and responsive control for gamers.
Lenovo plans to launch this version of the Legion Go 2 in June 2026, with a starting price of $1,199.
