SteelSeries and Ignite Technologies reveal their Simraceway SRW-S1 steering wheel

After announcing their partnership back in August, SteelSeries and Ignite Technologies, two great companies in their respective fields have finally revealed what they had set out to do; the Simraceway SRW-S1 steering wheel.

This new peripheral aims at a precise goal: being a high performance PC controller opening a new racing world to players fed up with their joypads, all of which at an affordable price tag.

“When we set out in 2008 to create a new kind of racing game, one of the first issues we had to confront was the age-old ‘interface problem’,” said Ignite CEO Jonathan Haswell. “For decades now, racing game players have been faced with the unenviable choice of spending a huge amount of money on a wheel-and-pedal set that is tricky to set up, store and transport or settling for a binary joypad that simply isn’t fit-for-purpose. It soon became clear that the only solution was to produce something completely new and unique. A controller that would be affordable enough for those who can’t justify spending fortunes on top-end racing wheels but authentic enough to convey the full exhilaration of the virtual racing experience. This truly unique hybrid design brings the joy of racing without the trouble a wheel-and-pedal set would create thanks to its motion-sensor controlling the steering and a throttle and brake paddle system fully simulating the driving experience without any of the disadvantages.

Featuring more than 20 on-wheel buttons and dials each optimized for easy access and an ergonomically-designed rubberized grip, the driver is ensure to stay in complete control at all times.

While no complicated configurations and drivers are required to use this, a simple plug and play system is at hand, it still allows you to fully configure the controls to your likings with the in-game settings, although be warned that some features such as the shift indicator LEDs are not compatible with every game.

Not only does it include such a wide range of features, but it has also been designed and tested by some great names of the racing world including four-time IndyCar Series winner Dario Franchitti, double Indy 500 Champion Dan Wheldon and SimRacing stars David Greco and Bruno Marques.
