How Much Does it Cost?

The SteelSeries Apex Pro Mechanical Gaming Keyboard is available right now from many major retailers. We found it on Amazon.co.uk for around £190 and in the US for around $200. That’s a big hit to the wallet, we know, but this keyboard is pretty much unlike anything else. When it comes to bleeding-edge switch technology, it has no rivals. It’s as good as they come, but it has the price to match.

Overview

OK, so you have to drop some pretty serious coin on this keyboard. However, as expensive as it is, it’s clear that SteelSeries has gone above and beyond to make something worthy of the asking price. Your wallet might not agree, but that’s certainly my take on it.

Great Features

The core features are easily on par with any other expensive mechanical keyboard though. A stunning aluminium alloy construction that gives it fantastic rigidity and stability, not to forget that it also looks beautiful. There’s a detachable magnetic wrist rest for added comfort, and I honestly can’t use a keyboard without one these days. You get that slick OLED display for showing game stats, track information, and so much more too. Then there is full per-key RGB lighting with a huge amount of customisation options. Not forgetting the USB pass-through feature, macro recording, volume control wheel, etc. That’s a pretty solid setup by any measure.

OmniPoint

The new mechanical switches are the biggest selling point. There’s nothing else out there quite like them really. They still have the full range of a standard mechanical switch, which I love. It feels natural to type on for those of use used to standard switches. However, being able to program in the range at which the switch triggers a hit is pure genius. The end result is a silky smooth and fast typing action, but response times that can be as low as 1/3rd that of the fastest MX Speed switches!

Should I Buy One?

Honestly, I think it’s unfair of me to broadly recommend a £200 keyboard. There are plenty of amazing keyboards for half as much. However, if money isn’t an issue, and you want to play on some truly innovative switches, and still enjoy what is honestly a beautifully made keyboard, the SteelSeries Apex Pro is one hell of a keyboard!
