SteelSeries Ikari Laser Mouse Review

Comfort

This mouse is extremely comfortable and your hand will not tire from using it, even after several hours of gaming. It is perfectly moulded and does suit my hand. My fingers and thumb want to naturally rest in the right places while being well supported.

Features

The CPI switching is a very useful feature for general every day applications and especially during games. However it can take time to adjust when the high CPI setting as it is 4 times that of the low CPI setting. There are also a good few setting that can be tweaked with regards to the macros and programmable buttons but this is what you expect from any gaming mouse and isn’t exactly a new feature.

Functionality

This is a very functional mouse. The ability to change CPI settings give a clear edge over normal mice but there are a few features lacking that ought to be included with the software. For example, the ability to alter the cursor speed and the rate of acceleration of the cursor as well as the scroll speed. None of this is adjustable within the mouse software or on the mouse. However, it is possible to adjust it within Windows but this mouse is meant to be moving away from the constraints of the OS.

Gaming

For the various games we tested there is an observable improvement with the SteelSeries Ikari Laser mouse. The ability to switch CPI settings quickly between high and low is very useful. During Call of Duty you need to be able to turn around quite quickly but then aim accurately which leads you to switching between high and low quite frequently. For this the switch is not in the best of locations but could be assigned to one of the thumb keys.

Photoshop

This mouse is perfect for Photoshop; it gives you precision and the control when you want it. It allows you to be very smooth with a smaller brush size but still move around the screen very efficiently. It also very useful when running dual monitors to move between the two screens especially for dragging a window across quickly and generally spanning the two monitors.
