SteelSeries WoW: Cataclysm MMO Gaming Mouse Review

Final ThoughtsWhile in lots of ways I have been trying to find faults with this mouse, as reviewers should, I must now reflect on the things I did like about it. Firstly, the buttons around the scroll wheel are both practical, as in you can use them without moving your fingers too much, and they are also well shaped and positioned.

The lighting system while it doesn’t really seem to ‘complete the look’ (putting fairly lights on a beetle doesn’t make it look pretty – but that’s me!), they do have quite a cool ‘heart-beat-like’ pulsation which with the right colours can look good with your personalised gaming rig.

The buttons to the left of the mouse, while a tad excessive are in a good position and nearly well designed although I didn’t find them that easy to use as giving your thumb 5 buttons to chose from might confuse any of you who don’t play the Bassoon (Did you really think I wouldn’t find a way to get that into a review?!).

The high cpi and smoothness of this mouse do make it fairly pleasant to work with on everyday programs as well as during most games, but I feel they could of given you more customising designed for general Windows use. The illumination will unfortunately never look as good as it does in the promotional shots as it just doesn’t seem to have the brightness with most colours.

On the whole, if you like WoW this is probably already on your Christmas list, it is certainly a good mouse but theres a few things that stop it from being a great mouse.

On the price point, you do get a lot of features for £62.99 from Scan.co.uk or $99.99 from Newegg.com however some will certainly be put off from paying this much for a mouse.

Pros

  • Brilliant software for customisation
  • Lots of buttons to chose from
  • 5000 CPI gives great accuracy
  • Good integration with WoW

Cons

  • Could be more practical to use everyday
  • Doesn’t look too great
  • Few of the buttons aren’t that useful
  • Fairly large price tag
