Store Promises Free GTA 6 for Babies Born on Release Date
A Norwegian retailer has launched an unusual promotion tied to the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI. The store chain Komplett has announced that it will give away a free copy of the game to anyone who has a baby on the exact day it launches — November 19, assuming there are no further delays.
The company explained on social media that if the birth happens on the official release date, expected in about nine months, the parents will receive the game at no cost (thanks TheGamer).
GTA 6 Launch Day Babies Earn Parents a Free Copy
Unlike similar promotions in the past, parents will not need to name their newborn after any character from the game. Back in 2011, Bethesda Softworks offered a free copy of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim to parents who named their baby “Dovahkiin” if the child was born on launch day — and one couple actually did it.
In this case, Komplett does not require any additional condition beyond the baby being born on the exact release date. However, the promotion depends on the game actually launching that day. While Take-Two Interactive has given assurances, some fans still believe another delay is possible.
The campaign, although mostly symbolic, has generated a lot of discussion on social media. Many users have pointed out that parents who qualify for the promotion may not have much free time to play during the first few days after the birth — something experienced parents understand well.
Considering that GTA 6 is expected to be not only the biggest release of the year but possibly the most important game launch of the past decade, it is likely that more creative promotions will appear in the coming months. For brands, associating themselves with such a major title offers huge visibility at a relatively low promotional cost.
In other news, Russian officials and religious figures called for a ban on GTA 6 ahead of its release.
