Subnautica and Subnautica: Below Zero Coming to Nintendo Switch 2, Free Upgrade Confirmed
Unknown Worlds Entertainment has announced the release date for Subnautica and Subnautica: Below Zero on Nintendo Switch 2. The games will arrive in improved and updated versions, and the upgrade will be free for players who already own the original versions.
Both titles will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on February 17. Players who already own the original Switch versions will be able to download a free Upgrade Pack to access the new edition built for the next-generation console.
The update focuses on technical improvements designed to better use the Nintendo Switch 2 hardware, with changes that should be clearly noticeable.
Technical Improvements On Nintendo Switch 2
Subnautica and Subnautica: Below Zero will feature higher resolution on Nintendo Switch 2, along with improved performance for smoother and more stable gameplay compared to the Switch 1 versions.
Both titles will run at 1440p in Docked mode, while in Handheld mode the resolution will be 1080p. The frame rate is expected to remain steady at 60 FPS in both modes.
The team also promises: “More responsive controls, enhanced immersion, and a more fluid underwater experience.”
However, they did not go into detail about the specific changes made to achieve these improvements.
On Nintendo Switch 2, there will also be specific enhancements designed to support the new Joy-Con controllers, allowing for more precise controls and better interaction.
Players who already own Subnautica or Subnautica: Below Zero on the original Nintendo Switch will not need to buy the games again. Instead, they can download the free Upgrade Pack and move directly to the improved Nintendo Switch 2 versions.
