Synology launched three new NAS today with media streaming, file sharing, and data backup features perfect for home and small offices. The new devices include the 2-bay DS218play and DS218j as well as the 1-bay DS118.

“These three home storage solutions are built to be the best multimedia library for users who love taking photos and videos to capture every important moment with their family and friends,” said Katarina Shao, Product Manager at Synology Inc. “With versatile add-on packages, the three NAS models are also excellent choices for small studio owners who are seeking better productivity during work hours.”

DiskStation DS218play

The DiskStation DS218play is equipped with a 64-bit quad-core Realtek RTD1296 1.4 GHz processor. The system features 1GB DDR4 memory. This is an effective processor with hardware encryption engine. It is capable of encrypted throughput over 110MB/s. It features a hardware transcoding engine too, allowing the DS218play to support real-time single-channel 10-bit H.265 4K Ultra HD and single channel Full-HD video transcoding.

Externally, the DS218play has two USB 3.0 for storage drives, wireless dongles, and printers. One RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet port provides the network capabilities.

The new DS218play has a suggested retail price of £217.09 (inc. VAT).
